Important note for submitting authors Approximately 80% of submitted papers are desk rejected because they fall outside the scope of the Journal of Intelligent Transportation Systems (JITS). Before submitting, please ensure that your manuscript addresses technical or practice-oriented issues related to Intelligent Transportation Systems and demonstrates substantial implications for planning and operations. For details, please carefully review the journal’s Scope and Aims. Aims and Scope The Journal of Intelligent Transportation Systems is devoted to scholarly research on the development, planning, management, operation, and evaluation of intelligent transportation systems. Intelligent transportation systems are innovative solutions that address contemporary transportation problems. They are characterized by information exchange, connectivity, dynamic feedback, and automation, enabling the efficient movement of people and goods. They encompass the full scope of information technologies used in transportation, including control, computation, and communication, as well as algorithms, databases, models, simulations, and human interfaces. We seek impactful research that advances scientific understanding of the implications of intelligent transportation systems for mobility, safety, energy consumption, and emissions. The journal is interdisciplinary and accepts work from engineering, planning, and related disciplines that advance scientific understanding of intelligent transportation systems. The journal is also multi-modal and accepts work on intelligent transportation for all ground transportation modes that takes a transportation systems perspective. Example topics include the role of emerging technologies in transportation, traffic flow and management, vehicle control, routing and scheduling, traveler response to technologies, planning for ITS innovations, evaluations of ITS field operational tests, connected and automated vehicles, technologies for vulnerable road users, public transportation, commercial vehicles, and tools/software for analysis of ITS, including artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques. Papers that only apply machine learning or image processing techniques without explicitly discussing transportation system implications will not be accepted. Publication of Review Articles The Journal of Intelligent Transportation Systems will, in rare cases, consider review articles that summarize and organize recent research results in a pa
