Developmental Evolutionary Biology as a field aims to unify evolutionary and developmental biology to provide a synthetic understanding of the structure and evolution of organisms. It is by nature multi-disciplinary and multi-faceted, and at present integrates the concepts and technical tools of molecular and developmental biology, ecology, and evolutionary biology. Developmental Evolutionary Biology is therefore poised to lead the conceptual unification of the biological sciences for an integrated biology for the twenty-first century. JEZ-B: Molecular and Developmental Evolution provides a forum where biologists can bring together their insights to further a synthetic understanding of evolution from the molecular and developmental through to the organismic level (animal and non-animal). Contributions from all branches of science towards this goal are welcome to JEZ-B. In addition to being a home to all approaches to molecular and developmental evolution, including theoretical and philosophical approaches, we encourage submissions that integrate different levels of biological organization and their interactions, from genes, cells, tissues, organs, morphology, and behavior to individuals, societies, populations, and communities. We also encourage submissions that introduce emerging model organisms for future devo-evo studies as well as those that push well-established systems forward.
