Brief History The Brazilian Journal of Nephrology (BJN) is the official journal of the Brazilian Society of Nephrology (SBN). Founded in 1979 under the title Jornal Brasileiro de Nefrologia, its mission is to disseminate clinical and experimental scientific studies in nephrology. BJN is an open-access journal that publishes articles in Portuguese and English, with no fees charged to authors. Since 2024, it has adopted a continuous publication model, while maintaining the quarterly issue organization (March, June, September, and December). Submitted manuscripts undergo single-blind peer review, ensuring scientific rigor and quality. In addition to regular issues, the journal also publishes thematic and abstract supplements. Throughout its history, the journal has achieved important milestones in professionalization and internationalization. In 2018, it adopted the English version of its title as a strategy to expand its international audience. Indexing in SciELO (2009) and Medline (2010) increased its visibility, which was further strengthened by inclusion in PubMed Central and Scopus (2019) and, more recently, in the Emerging Sources Citation Index (Web of Science Core Collection™). BJN obtained its first impact factor in 2023 (1.2), assigned by JCR 2022. In JCR 2023, it rose to 1.3, maintaining this performance in JCR 2024. Alongside its professionalization and internationalization efforts, BJN has built a solid presence on social media, initially with profiles on Facebook and Twitter, producing outreach materials such as tweets, press releases, and Visual Abstracts. Since 2018, it has had dedicated social media editors responsible for creating the Visual Abstracts that accompany articles and expand their reach. The journal is currently also present on Instagram and LinkedIn. Today, BJN reaffirms its commitment to being a scientific journal of excellence, guided by diversity, integrity, and responsibility, consolidating its academic relevance. Its goal is to remain a bridge between knowledge and action, regions and realities, science and solidarity. Mission: To contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge and professional practice in nephrology by publishing relevant original studies in basic, clinical, and applied research, promoting open access and broad international dissemination. Vision: To be recognized as the leading nephrology journal in Latin America, a reference in scientific quality, editorial innovation, and scientific communication,
