La revista científica Investigaciones Geográficas se edita desde 1983, en el seno del Instituto Interuniversitario de Geografía de Alicante. Desde enero de 2012 (nº 57), la revista se publica con periodicidad semestral (números de enero-junio y julio-diciembre) y desde el nº 59 (enero-junio 2013) sólo en formato digital, a través de esta web. Desde enero de 2020 se establece el sistema de publicación ahead of print que implica que, además de que en cada semestre se publique el número que corresponda, la revista publicará una versión no paginada, ni asignada a un número de los textos tan pronto sean aceptados en la redacción (publicación continua). Es su principal objetivo contribuir a la difusión y avance del conocimiento geográfico, en sentido amplio. Su misión es afianzarse como medio de expresión de la comunidad científica geográfica. Admite artículos necesariamente originales e inéditos, que den cabida a contribuciones científicas de índole geográfica, en cualquiera de sus áreas de conocimiento. Esporádicamente acepta aportaciones procedentes de disciplinas afines, como la Historia, Urbanismo, Ecología, Economía, Medio Ambiente y Sociología, entre otras. Se orienta de forma específica hacia el estudioso e investigador universitario, y de modo genérico, a todos aquellos interesados en ampliar sus conocimientos sobre el ser humano y sus relaciones con el territorio y el paisaje. En ningún caso se admiten trabajos divulgativos o que no representen una aportación original al conocimiento geográfico.
