O Programa de Pós-Graduação em Ciências Sociais (PPCIS) da UERJ foi fundado em 1994, contemplando a formação conjugada nas áreas de Antropologia, Ciência Política e Sociologia. Em 1999, o PPCIS lançou Interseções – revista de estudos interdisciplinares, cuja linha editorial acompanhou a proposta de formação do Programa, recebendo contribuições das três áreas e de áreas afins que estabeleçam diálogos com autores, questões e conceitos das Ciências Sociais. Interseções é um dos raros projetos editoriais brasileiros que se construiu a partir da reflexão sobre a importância do conhecimento interdisciplinar intelectualmente consistente, capaz de combinar conceitos e teses oriundos de matrizes teóricas distintas na construção de novos problemas de pesquisa e na elaboração de arcabouços teóricos inovadores.
