The International Journal of Imaging Systems and Technology is an interdisciplinary forum for high-quality research at the interface of medical imaging systems, imaging physics, image processing, informatics, and AI. The journal aims to advance the design, development, validation, and clinical translation of imaging technologies that improve the acquisition, reconstruction, analysis, interpretation, and use of medical images in humans and animals. The journal’s aim is to provide a leading venue for research on AI/ML in medical imaging. We encourage submissions that develop, evaluate, or apply AI-enabled methods for image acquisition, reconstruction, enhancement, segmentation, registration, detection, classification, radiomics, image-guided intervention, multimodal data fusion, computer-aided diagnosis, prognosis, treatment planning, and clinical decision support. IMA accepts technically sound and scientifically rigorous original research in the interdisciplinary field of imaging and its applications to medical research. Submissions describing advanced algorithmics, software, databases, replication studies as well as negative results are also considered. The journal welcomes original research studies covering all medical imaging modalities, including but not limited to magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, ultrasound, optical imaging, nuclear medicine, photoacoustic imaging, microscopy, digital pathology, multimodal imaging, and emerging hybrid systems. Emphasis is placed on innovations that enhance image quality, quantitative accuracy, and diagnostic performance, with clear clinical value. The scope of the journal includes the following in the context of biomedical research: Imaging modalities: MRI, PET, SPECT, CT, ultrasound, EEG, MEG, NIRS etc.; AI/ML-enhanced medical imaging systems; Deep learning for image reconstruction, restoration, enhancement, denoising, and artifact reduction; Medical image segmentation, pattern recognition, registration, detection, classification, quantification, and fusion; Foundation models, self-supervised learning, generative AI, and large-scale representation learning for medical imaging; Imaging physics, system modeling, acquisition design, and optimization; Quantitative imaging, radiomics, and imaging biomarkers; Imaging informatics, workflow integration, clinical deployment, and decision-support systems; Preclinical and translational imaging applications, validation studies, benchmarking, reproducibility, open
