Središnji problem suvremene civilizacije je nesloboda medija, ali i cjelokupna tehničko-znanstveno-medijska dimenzija koja stavlja u pitanje temeljne vrijednosti čovjeka. Utoliko filozofija koja želi promisliti svoje vrijeme, temeljne napore treba usmjeriti prema filozofiji medija. Istovremeno filozofija i samu sebe promatra kao fenomen koji je izrastao u mediju jezika. Utoliko filozofijska samosvijest propituje i posljedice medijalnosti filozofije same, odnosno ovisnost filozofije o mediju u kojemu se realizira. Filozofija medija propituje čovjeka u sustavima medijskog posredovanja, propitujući istovremeno i medijalnost vlastitog propitivanja odnosno medij jezika kojim to realizira.
