Illes i Imperis és una revista editada pel GRIMSE (Grup de Recerca en Imperis, Metròpolis i Societats Extraeuropees), Universitat Pompeu Fabra, des de 1998. Té per objecte la publicació d'estudis sobre les societats colonials i postcolonials. Els propòsits de l'equip editor són absolutament oberts. Admetem totes les formes d'aproximació a les societats colonials i les seves realitats posteriors, sempre que reuneixin els imperatius de qualitat propis de les ciències socials. Acceptem i promovem la publicació de treballs d'índole històrica però també aportacions des d'altres àmbits de les ciències socials. Illes i Imperis proporciona estudis, publica textos i material quantitatiu, dóna referències i comentaris bibliogràfics així com informació sobre activitats d'interès per als estudiosos i interessats en la història de les societats en el món colonial i postcolonial. És una revista, en definitiva, que serveix de plataforma per expressar les preocupacions acadèmiques pròpies dels qui s'ocupen en l'estudi d'aquestes societats. L'interès del GRIMSE s'ha orientat preferentment cap als estudis sobre Amèrica Llatina, sobre les Filipines i el Sud-est asiàtic, sobre el Nord d'Àfrica i també a propòsit del món metropolità hispànic, durant els segles XV al XX. No obstant, la revista no només es dirigeix cap a aquest tipus d'estudis sinó, en general, a la publicació de treballs acadèmics sobre altres àrees i èpoques. Ens motiven sobretot els estudis sobre altres imperis (portuguès, francès, anglès, holandès, ...), les perspectives comparatives i, en general, les anàlisis que es construeixin des de les preocupacions pròpies de la World History.
