Die GENDER bietet der Frauen- und Geschlechterforschung sowie den Gender Studies ein fachübergreifendes Forum für wissenschaftliche Debatten und die Kommunikation zwischen Wissenschaft und Praxis. Das Spektrum der Zeitschrift umfasst gesellschaftliche und kulturelle Themen – dem multidisziplinären Charakter der Zeitschrift entsprechend werden soziologische, erziehungswissenschaftliche, politikwissenschaftliche, ökonomische, kulturwissenschaftliche und historische Analysen aufgegriffen. Dabei geht es überdies um die Analyse lokaler, regionaler und globaler Einflüsse auf Geschlechterbeziehungen und -verhältnisse. Die GENDER ist offen für unterschiedliche Positionen. Theoretische Auseinandersetzungen und Kontroversen sind ebenso erwünscht wie empirische Studien. Von Interesse sind hierbei insbesondere Studien, die ihren Blick auf soziale und kulturelle Veränderungen richten und das Handlungspotenzial jenseits tradierter geschlechtlicher Zuschreibungen ausloten.
