Tytuł czasopisma określa jego profil. Proponujemy go tłumaczyć jako „fabryki społeczeństwa”. Choć łaciński termin – dla uproszczenia jego wymowy – został zapisany w liczbie pojedynczej, to dobrze zdajemy sobie sprawę, że życie społeczne powstaje w niejednej „fabryce”. Choć jest ich wiele, to mają one co najmniej jedną wspólną cechę. Ich eksplorowanie, to przede wszystkim badanie codzienności, które bardzo często zmusza do odejścia od znaczących tworów społecznych na rzecz poziomu najbardziej podstawowego. Opisy praktyk codzienności, zaabsorbowanie doświadczaniem życia codziennego, hołubienie przekonania, że podstawowe procesy i struktury życia społecznego są zawarte nie tylko i nie przede wszystkim w ważnych zjawiskach sfery publicznej, a w konwencjach budujących codzienne relacje międzyludzkie, są kojarzone nade wszystko z socjologią życia codziennego/codzienności. Upominając się o naukowe zainteresowanie banalnością praktycznego świata i preferując model socjologii doceniającej bardziej somatyczność niż świadomość wpisujemy profil czasopisma w obszar tej subdyscypliny. W badaniach socjologii codzienności mieści się ogrom tematów, dotyczących aktywności ludzi i praktycznych kompetencji biorących udział w wytwarzaniu relacji międzyludzkich i powoływaniu znaczeń. W naukach społecznych zwiększa się liczba prac poświęconych codziennej egzystencji ludzkiej. Życie codzienne i codzienność są więc ciekawym przedmiotem badań i zarazem interdyscyplinarną kategorią analizy. Podstawowym celem czasopisma jest skupienie w jednym miejscu dociekań podejmujących teoretyczne, metodologiczne i empiryczne starania pojęcia sił, które wytwarzają i kształtują w codziennych staraniach rozmaite przejawy życia społecznego, a także doceniających znaczenie delikatnych nici łączących ludzi i niepowtarzalność ich doświadczenia, proponujących wyjście poza gotowe klisze społeczne, zmieniających perspektywy w sposób pozwalający wydobywać to, co dotąd było w cieniu lub pozostawało zaledwie tłem. Nie wyklucza to odkrywania relacji poziomu „komórkowego” z szerszym, strukturalnym układem oraz relacjonowania wzorów i praw. Takie próby wymagają o wiele częściej świadectw poszukiwań niż gotowych odpowiedzi, wywracania nawyków myślowych, przybliżonych koncepcji, odgrywających rolę przewodnika po złożonej i zmiennej rzeczywistości, abyśmy mogli z większą swobodą rozważać pomysłowość i (nie)powtarzalność codzienności. To właśnie takie dokumenty – od tzw. working papers po kompletne i ukończone prace – mają tworzyć trzon kolejnych numerów czasopisma. Zarazem jego redaktorzy będą się pochylać z uwagą nad każdym artykułem z obszaru nauk humanistyczno-społecznych, który daje szansę na wzbogacenie wiedzy socjologów i otwarcie interdyscyplinarnych horyzontów.
