La misión de Estudios Atacameños es publicar principalmente contribuciones originales e inéditas resultantes de investigaciones sobre temas de arqueología, antropología social, historia y bioantropología de la región suramericana. La revista está dirigida a estudiantes, académicos, investigadores y público en general interesados en estas temáticas. Desde el año 2021 Estudios Atacameños se publica exclusivamente en formato digital. Asimismo, se adopta la modalidad de publicación continua, un modelo editorial en el que los artículos se publican de forma individual e inmediata a medida que completan el proceso de evaluación y edición, sin necesidad de esperar al cierre de un número, manteniendo un volumen de carácter anual. Esta modalidad permite una mayor fluidez en la periodicidad de publicación, al reducir los tiempos de espera, lo que se traduce en mayor inmediatez y, por ende, en un aumento de la visibilidad de los artículos publicados.
