Environmental Sciences Europe (ESEU) is an international, peer-reviewed journal with a broad thematic scope covering all aspects of environmental sciences, from fundamental and applied experimental research to policy and regulatory perspectives. ESEU has a special focus on the interrelations between environmental sciences and regulation, as in recent years, there has been misunderstanding and disagreement between researchers and stakeholders in these two areas. It is the journal’s aim to improve the comprehension of issues underlying such conflicts and thereby to enable further progress in solving environmental problems. ESEU serves as a platform for dialogue between the German-speaking (DACH) countries and the wider European and global scientific community. While European research and regulation remain at its core, the journal welcomes contributions from all regions, recognizing that environmental challenges and regulatory responses are inherently global in scope. In addition to traditional article types such as Research Articles, Reviews, and Comments, Environmental Sciences Europe (ESEU) offers several complementary formats that reflect its mission to connect scientific research, policy, and regulation. A key format in this regard is the Policy Brief, which translates scientific evidence into practical recommendations for policymakers. These concise and accessible articles address specific regulatory or societal challenges, provide evidence-based guidance, and outline clear steps from research to implementation. ESEU also welcomes Brief Communications for the rapid publication of new findings, Perspectives highlighting innovative conceptual frameworks or future research directions, and Data Notes that enhance transparency and data reusability. Together, these diverse article types support ESEU’s aim to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and to advance the integration of environmental science and regulatory practice at regional, European, and global levels. Article Collections in Environmental Sciences Europe (ESEU) bring together papers that address a common theme or emerging topic in environmental science, policy, and regulation. Collections aim to enhance the visibility and impact of research by presenting a coherent set of articles that advance understanding of a specific issue. Authors are invited to submit proposals to develop new Collections listed on the ESEU website, following the standard submission process via SNAPP (Springer Nature's next-gene
