Scope

Aims, scope and focus

Energy Conversion and Management is published by Elsevier Ltd and is in Zone 1 of Engineering in the CAS Journal Ranking (2025 upgraded edition, Top journal). By OpenAlex counts of its recent articles, its largest topics are Thermodynamic and Exergetic Analyses of Power and Cooling Systems, Solar Thermal and Photovoltaic Systems and Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technologies, together about 24.5% of its articles. Its main subfields are Mechanical Engineering. (generated from OpenAlex topic counts and CAS ranking data)

The journal Energy Conversion and Management provides a forum for publishing original contributions and comprehensive technical review articles of interdisciplinary and original research on all important energy topics. The topics considered include energy generation, utilization, conversion, storage, transmission, conservation, management and sustainability. These topics typically involve various types of energy such as mechanical, thermal, nuclear, chemical, electromagnetic, magnetic and electric. These energy types cover all known energy resources, including renewable resources (e.g., solar, bio, hydro, wind, geothermal and ocean energy), fossil fuels and nuclear resources.Papers are welcome that investigate or consider the prospects of energy technologies, devices, systems, materials, processes, operation, performance, maintenance and control.Priority may be given to interdisciplinary energy subjects that deal with advanced technologies and that consider more than one of these methodologies: modeling, experimental, analysis and optimization, with appropriate verifications of the findings. Papers in which optimization is a core component are considered within scope when the optimization supports a substantive contribution to the journal’s energy topics described above. Papers in which the main contribution lies primarily in applying or comparing existing optimization methods for a well-studied research problem or device, process, or system within those topics, or in proposing a minor variant of an existing optimization method, would generally not be considered suitable on that basis alone. This journal welcomes contributions that support and advance the UN's sustainable development goals, in particular SDG 7 (Affordable and clean energy).
