Scope

Aims, scope and focus

Ecological Entomology is published by Wiley-Blackwell Publishing Ltd and is in Zone 2 of Agricultural & Forestry Sciences in the CAS Journal Ranking (2025 upgraded edition). By OpenAlex counts of its recent articles, its largest topics are Plant and animal studies, Insect-Plant Interactions and Control and Insect and Arachnid Ecology and Behavior, together about 46.3% of its articles. Its main subfields are Insect Science. (generated from OpenAlex topic counts and CAS ranking data)

Ecological Entomology publishes top-quality original research on the ecology of insects and related invertebrate taxa. Our aim is to publish papers that are motivated by ecological or evolutionary theory and will be of considerable interest to the wide community of ecologists. We publish full-length Original Articles (which includes Methods papers) as well as Reviews, Short Communications, and Opinion papers. In Original Articles, we greatly prefer papers that test specific hypotheses and that have a high degree of novelty. All categories aim for innovative contributions that advance the subject of ecological entomology. Where the content of the paper falls outside of the remit of the journal, we may recommend that authors submit their papers to one of our sister journals. For example, papers in pest management that do not test broader ecological theories may be more suited to Agricultural and Forest Entomology, and papers that focus primarily on examining patterns of insect distribution and diversity may be more suited to Insect Conservation and Diversity.
