Научно-практический рецензируемый медицинский журнал «Сахарный диабет» выходит ежеквартально с 1998 года под руководством академика РАН И.И. Дедова и под эгидой ФГБУ «Эндокринологический научный центр» Минздрава России и ОО «Российская ассоциация эндокринологов». Журнал публикует оригинальные статьи о проведённых клинических, клинико-экспериментальных и фундаментальных научных работах, научные обзоры, лекции, описания клинических случаев, а также вспомогательные материалы по всем актуальным вопросам диабетологии. Основная тематика журнала сфокусирована на ключевых вопросах диабетологии: этиологии и патогенеза, эпидемиологии, особенностей клинической картины, новейших методов диагностики и лечения, а также профилактики и лечения острых и поздних осложнений сахарного диабета и связанных и ним заболеваний и состояний. Журнал ориентирован на врачей, ученых и преподавателей медицинских вузов: научных работников, диабетологов, эндокринологов, а также специалистов всех смежных направлений внутренней медицины, в том числе врачей-терапевтов, врачей общей практики, семейных врачей, педиатров. С 2014 года журнал «Сахарный диабет» выходит полностью на двух языках (русском и английском) и распространяется бесплатно в электронном виде (Gold Open Access).
