By OpenAlex counts of its recent articles, its largest topics are Coding theory and cryptography, graph theory and CDMA systems and Cryptographic Implementations and Security, together about 61% of its articles. Its main subfields are Artificial Intelligence. (generated from OpenAlex topic counts and CAS ranking data)

Cryptography and Communications: Discrete Structures, Boolean Functions and Sequences publishes scholarly research dedicated to improving the quality of the Discrete Structures, Boolean Functions and Sequences used in communication and symmetric cryptographic systems. This research aims to increase the speed and capacity of digital communication and strengthen security by improving the encryption necessary to combat cryptanalytic attacks. With improved encryption, communication will become more secure from the cryptanalytic attacks that threaten the confidentiality and integrity of personal data stored on and transmitted by mobile devices. Increasing the speed, reliability, and capacity of wireless communication is essential for growth, since the radio spectrum is a bounded resource. While sometimes treated as separate entities with distinct research goals, communication and symmetric cryptography often use similar models and techniques and work in tandem in digital networks. As a result, this journal’s distinctive combination encourages researchers to strive for advancements that will improve one or both areas, thus providing a publishing forum for these domains, covering all the fundamental and computational aspects of these research fields. The journal publishes high-quality papers providing original results on the mathematical study of discrete structures used in stream and block ciphers in symmetric cryptography (Boolean and vectorial functions) and in communications (error correcting codes, sequences) and their interactions, without excluding any other discrete structure used in symmetric cryptography and communications, such as finite fields and other algebraic structures. Both theoretical and applied papers will be considered. Note that we do not take review papers (we publish only those from authors we have invited). Submissions (to regular issues) on the following topics will not be considered as being within the scope, unless the mathematical results they include are useful for domains that are in the scope: public-key cryptography, ad hoc cryptanalysis, key generation, exchange and management, intrusion detection, image encryption, hardware architectures, zero-knowledge, protocols, neural networks, learning, wireless sensor networks, Internet of things, blockchain, ransomware detection, methods based on chaos. Papers only containing computer investigation results will not be considered either. But special issues (collections) may contain papers
