Bone & Joint Research (BJR) is a gold open access journal with an impact factor of 5.5, dedicated exclusively to publishing research related to disorders of the musculoskeletal system and their treatment. Through a continuous publication model, the journal aims to provide rapid publication of research across a range of disciplines in the musculoskeletal sciences including, but not limited to: basic science; bioengineering; biomechanics; regenerative medicine; stem cells; inflammation; immunology; infection; metabolomics; proteomics; tissue research; ligaments; veterinary orthopaedics; pre-clinical and translational laboratory studies where there is clear relevance to the treatment of disorders in humans that conform to CONSORT and STROBE guidelines; and studies from the device and pharmaceutical industries. Available in PubMed Central, and therefore fully searchable on PubMed, BJR offers maximum exposure of your work. We are keen to support studies by young and new researchers who want and need to publish their work while they are learning and developing their ideas and skills. We will consider early-phase and post-marketing studies from the device and pharmaceutical industries. We believe it is essential to the research record that such studies are published and with open access. Research which BJR will not publish are clinical papers, genetics papers, genome-wide association study (GWAS) papers, case series of non-consecutive patients, studies that lack a clear research question, case reports, and theses. Please note that BJR will also not consider Mendelian randomization papers. Submitted manuscripts must be related to the musculoskeletal system in order to be considered for publication. We are unable to accept manuscripts written in other areas of research that have no relation to the musculoskeletal system, e.g. neurology, dermatology. AI Policy: You can find our policy surrounding artificial intelligence and its use in publication here. Preprints Please note that BJR does not encourage the use of preprint servers. However, the following exceptions will be considered: The study is based on animal/preclinical models. For any studies based on human/clinical subjects, we will ask the authors to explain why they put it on a preprint server first. If authors can justify this, e.g. the manuscript is an urgent update related to COVID-19, then this would be considered for publication. However, if a manuscript is eventually accepted for publication then author
