El Boletín de Literatura Oral, financiado por el Servicio de Publicaciones de la Universidad de Jaén, es una revista científica con carácter semestral dedicada a la documentación y estudio de la Literatura de tradición oral. La revista publica un volumen ordinario en el mes de julio y un seguno volumen de carácter monográfico al finalizar el año. Se consideran todas aquellas aportaciones que supongan un progreso real del conocimiento de la literatura de tradición oral desde la perspectiva de estudio literaria, histórica, paremiológica, lingüística, antropológica, musicológica, etc. Se desestimarán, por tanto, aquellos trabajos meramente descriptivos o las reiteraciones de investigaciones previas, a excepción de los casos que contribuyan a consolidar de manera notoria los conocimientos sobre el tema estudiado. Los trabajos que no aborden aspectos relacionados con la literatura oral únicamente tendrán cabida en el marco de volúmenes monográficos donde la relevancia de la aportación se justifique dentro del conjunto. Los trabajos presentados al BLO, que deberán ser originales y no haber sido sometidos simultáneamente a evaluación en otras revistas, podrán redactarse en cualquier lengua romance, además de en inglés.
