Profil czasopisma obejmuje zagadnienia dotyczące historii książki, dziejów bibliotek i ich zbiorów, współczesnego bibliotekarstwa, bibliologii, informacji naukowej i dokumentacji oraz prasoznawstwa. Adama Mickiewicza (dostęp do pełnych tekstów czasopisma znajduje się w Wielkopolskiej Bibliotece Cyfrowej). Aby podkreślić tę ciągłość, nowy i różniący się zarówno formą, jak i rozszerzonymi założeniami programowymi periodyk otrzymał podwójną numerację. Pierwszy rocznik nowej edycji opatrzono numerem 1, natomiast ciągłość tytułu zaakcentowano dodanym w nawiasie, kolejnym numerem odnoszącym się do całości czasopisma. Pierwotną wersją czasopisma jest wersja elektroniczna. Numery „Biblioteki” od 1(10)1997 do 10(19)2006 zostały umieszczone w pełnej wersji na platformie Wielkopolskiej Biblioteki Cyfrowej. Streszczenia opublikowanych prac są dostępne w międzynarodowej bazie danych The Central European Journal of Sciences and Humanities. Rocznik jest indeksowany w bazach: ERIH+, Sherpa Romeo i IC Journals Master List oraz w bazie polityk wydawniczych polskich czasopism naukowych Most Wiedzy. Zawartość czasopisma jest dostępna w bazach: Directory of Open Access Journals, BazHum Muzeum Historii Polski oraz Bibliotece Nauki na Platformie Polskich Publikacji Naukowych, a od 2007 roku – w uniwersyteckim repozytorium AMUR.
