Biblio3W. Revista Bibliográfica de Geografía y Ciencias Sociales es una revista académica de Geografía, de formato digital de acceso abierto, sin costes de publicación, multilingüe y vocación internacional, cuyo objetivo fundamental es contribuir al desarrollo y la difusión de la ciencia geográfica entendida en un sentido amplio, abierto, riguroso, interdisciplinar y, sobre todo, conectado con las problemáticas reales de la sociedad y de la ciudadanía, en una perspectiva de presente y de futuro (y, en cualquier caso, sin menoscabo de la imprescindible perspectiva histórica). Su punto de partida es el portal Geocrítica, constituido en 1996, en el cual Biblio3W adquiere inicialmente una orientación bibliográfico-documental, que progresivamente va derivando hacia un perfil generalista y pluritemático que ha ido consolidando hasta el momento presente. La revista admite, por tanto, trabajos relacionados de un modo general con la Geografía: sean reflexiones teóricas o análisis con vocación aplicada, y en una perspectiva tanto física como humana o regional, con énfasis en el territorio real (sea éste de matriz urbana, rural o rururbana), a cualquier escala de estudio, y siempre desde la garantía de la originalidad de las aportaciones y de su ajuste a los estándares de calidad científica establecidos. La revista se dirige principalmente a un público académico especializado, formado por investigadores, docentes y estudiantes avanzados de disciplinas como la Geografía humana, la sociología o la historia, interesados en el análisis crítico del territorio, el pensamiento geográfico y los estudios urbanos; secundariamente, también puede atraer a profesionales del urbanismo y la planificación territorial, así como a lectores con formación superior y sensibilidad hacia las ciencias sociales, aunque su lenguaje técnico y enfoque teórico hacen que su accesibilidad para el público general sea limitada.
