Barn – forskning om barn og barndom i Norden er et vitenskapelig tverrfaglig tidsskrift med forankring i tverrfaglige barndomsstudier (childhood studies). Barn publiserer originale og kritiske forskningsartikler som bidrar til utvikling av forskningsfeltet childhood studies, for både erfarne forskere og forskere tidlig i karrieren. Barn er et forum for forskning på barn og unge i nordisk kontekst, og inkluderer både samtidige og historiske studier. Barn ønsker teoretiske tilnærminger som tilbyr et kritisk blikk på normative og tatt-for-gitte forståelser av barndom, barn og unge (for eksempel post-humanisme/ANT, post-kolonial teori, sosiokulturell teori, visuell teori, dialogisk/interaksjonsteori). Spesielt presiseres behov for teoretiseringer av hvordan barndom defineres og struktureres av sosiale, kulturelle, politiske og historiske kontekster, samt varierer i tid og sted. Barn publiserer akademisk forskning som bruker forskjellige metodologiske tilnærminger, hvor barns inter- og intra-generasjonelle posisjon står i sentrum, og hvor barns perspektiver verdsettes. Barn dekker et vidt tematisk spekter, fra barns hverdagsliv og kulturer til offentlige tjenester og politiske sammenhenger hvor barn og familier er inkludert. Barn er av interesse for forskere, praktikere og beslutningstakere innenfor områder som helse, utdanning og velferdssektorer i samfunnet.
