Основной целью журнала «Атеросклероз» является обобщение научных и практических достижений в области изучения атеросклероза и связанных с ним заболеваний. Научная концепция издания предполагает публикацию современных достижений в области диагностики, лечения и профилактики атеросклероза, результатов научных исследований, результатов национальных и международных клинических исследований. В журнале освещаются биохимические и молекулярно-генетические механизмы развития атеросклероза, популяционные и клинические данные о факторах риска и распространенности заболеваний атеросклеротического генеза в различных регионах России. Большое значение редакция журнала уделяет вопросам повышения информированности врачей и научных работников о новых зарубежных и российских методических руководствах по диагностике, лечению и профилактике атеросклероза и связанных с ним заболеваний, подготовке кадров в этой области знаний. Журнал принимает к публикации как статьи, посвященные оригинальным исследованиям, так и статьи обзорного и теоретического характера. Еще одним направлением журнала является информирование об итогах прошедших конгрессов и конференций в России. Журнал «Атеросклероз» предназначен как для практических врачей - терапевтов, кардиологов, липидологов и других, так и для ученых-исследователей, работающих в научно-исследовательских институтах в России и за рубежом.
