Scope

Aims, scope and focus

Applied Entomology and Zoology is published by Springer Japan and is in Zone 4 of Agricultural & Forestry Sciences in the CAS Journal Ranking (2025 upgraded edition). By OpenAlex counts of its recent articles, its largest topics are Insect-Plant Interactions and Control, Insect and Pesticide Research and Plant and animal studies, together about 36.7% of its articles. Its main subfields are Insect Science. (generated from OpenAlex topic counts and CAS ranking data)

Applied Entomology and Zoology publishes articles concerned with applied entomology, applied zoology, agricultural chemicals, and pest control in English. Contributions of a basic and fundamental nature may be accepted at the discretion of the Editor. The journal particularly welcomes submissions in the following entomological and zoological areas: taxonomy, morphology, phylogeny, ecology, behavior, physiology, evolution, genomics, metabolomics, molecular biology, bioactive compounds, bioresources and functional utilization, and new methods and techniques. Unless papers are of interest to a wide readership, the journal will not cover the following areas: medical, veterinary and fishery parasitology, poisonous and venomous animals other than insects and arachnids, natural history, forensic entomology, and ecotoxicology. Studies on agricultural chemicals for weeds and plant pathogens and on pest control utilizing only ‘petri dish-type’ laboratory trials without environmental validation will not be accepted. Studies on efficacy comparisons, formulation and application methods, metabolism, degradation, and risk assessment of new and existing pest control products will not be accepted, unless the result is of general interest to the readership. Papers outside of the above areas will be considered for publication if they significantly advance the field of applied entomology and zoology in the opinion of the Editors and Editorial Board. Manuscripts of original research papers, brief reports, and reviews are accepted for consideration. Manuscripts of opinions and perspectives are solicited by the Editor-in-Chief, and unsolicited submissions are not accepted. No manuscript that has been published elsewhere will be accepted for publication. Review manuscripts, unless invited, should include the author's previous relevant publications as references, especially if those publications are foundational to the manuscripts or if they represent the author's key contributions to the field. Manuscripts that do not comply with the submission guideline will be rejected without review. Author(s) are welcome to make pre-submission inquiries to the Editor-in-Chief regarding any uncertainties. We welcome submissions that demonstrate international relevance and appeal to a broad readership.
