Aims, scope and focus
Acta Geophysica is published by Springer International Publishing and is in Zone 4 of Earth Sciences in the CAS Journal Ranking (2025 upgraded edition). By OpenAlex counts of its recent articles, its largest topics are Seismic Imaging and Inversion Techniques, Seismic Waves and Analysis and earthquake and tectonic studies, together about 26.5% of its articles. Its main subfields are Geophysics and Global and Planetary Change. (generated from OpenAlex topic counts and CAS ranking data)
Acta Geophysica is an international journal devoted to fundamental and applied geophysics, spanning a broad range of topics grouped into the following sections: Solid Earth Sciences, Hydrology and Hydraulics, Atmospheric & Space Sciences, and Applied Geophysics. We aim to publish original and high-quality contributions: regular research papers, review papers, and short communications. Primary consideration will be given to studies significantly advancing our understanding of processes happening in the Earth’s spheres and beyond: in the lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and outer space. However, the submission should be geophysics-oriented and with the potential to attract a wide audience. We especially welcome contributions related to the development of new methods. Case studies are less favorably accepted unless they contain methodological novelty, present exceptional data or models, or are truly interdisciplinary. Authors are expected to convincingly demonstrate that their method is a significant step forward as compared to the existing methods and verify the method using real data. We encourage the use of reproducible methods, and the sharing of the computer codes, associated data, and models. You can read more here. Authors should ensure their manuscript is prepared as per the 'Submission Guidelines'. Contributions are especially welcome in the following areas: Applied Geophysics: Development and application of geophysical techniques for resource exploration, environmental studies, and engineering applications Advances in geophysical instrumentation and computational methods Innovative approaches to data processing, inversion, and interpretation in geophysics Exploration geophysics, near-surface geophysics, and geophysical imaging Hydrology and Hydraulics: Environmental hydraulics and surface water hydrology Global change-induced extreme events and environmental impacts Water security, and sustainable water management Hydrodynamic modeling and innovative observational techniques in hydrology Fluvial hydraulics Solid Earth Sciences: Anthropogenic hazards studied using geophysical methods Induced seismicity and its geophysical monitoring Artificial intelligence and machine learning applications in solid earth geophysics Remote sensing and big data applications in solid earth studies Advances in geological hazard assessment and mitigation strategies Multiscale investigations of the solid earth using novel approaches and instrumentation Atmospheric & S
