How to Check Whether a Journal Is Really Indexed in SCIE

Verify a journal's Web of Science status on four levels: its identity, the official database, its ISSN, and when the record was last checked.

Confirm the journal's identity first

Don't judge by the title alone. Check the ISSN, the publisher, the official website and any former titles together, so you don't confuse journals with similar names or land on a hijacked website.

JournalCompass stores names, ISSNs and source records separately; the external links on a journal page should still be cross-checked against the publisher's own website.

Let the official database decide

Third-party sites are good for searching and comparing, but the final word on indexing belongs to official sources such as the Clarivate Master Journal List. Note the date a record was checked: having been indexed in the past does not mean a journal is indexed today.

Record when you checked, and watch for changes

Journals change titles, move publishers, are put on hold or are removed from databases. A trustworthy page shows the fact, its source and when it was observed, rather than a label that never changes.
