Founded in 2003, the Zeitschrift der Gesellschaft für Musiktheorie (ZGMTH; Journal of the German-Speaking Society of Music Theory) is currently the only primarily German language periodical that deals mainly with music theory and is for the use of professionals in the field as well as anyone interested in music-theoretical issues. The ZGMTH provides an international forum for scholarly discourse. The journal stands for a differentiated music theory, in which systematic and historical approaches are both studied and their interconnections explored. Therefore, the ZGMTH provides ample publication opportunities for up-to-date theorizing as well as discussion of historical primary sources. There is also space for the discussion of pedagogic issues and reviews of new publications in music theory and musicology.
