Aims and Scope Zoology in the Middle East is a leading international journal dedicated to the study of animal diversity, ecology, evolution, and conservation in one of the world’s most significant biogeographical regions. Since its establishment in 1986, the journal has served as a specialized platform for advancing zoological knowledge across the Middle East and its neighboring areas. Geographic Focus Our geographic scope is centred on the Middle East (West Asia and beyond), understood as a major biogeographic bridge linking the Palaearctic, Afrotropical, and Oriental realms. We welcome studies from within the region and carefully framed comparative contributions from adjacent areas that help interpret regional patterns, including the eastern Mediterranean, the Balkans, the North Caucasus, North Africa, and parts of Central Asia. Core Subjects The journal publishes high-quality, peer-reviewed research across a broad range of zoological disciplines, including but not limited to: Community, population, and behavioural ecology Biogeography, zoogeography, and species distributions over time Conservation biology, restoration, and wildlife management Invasion biology Systematics, taxonomy, and integrative taxonomy Morphology Biodiversity assessment and monitoring Evolutionary ecology, phylogenetics, and phylogeography Wildlife ecology and human-wildlife interactions Methodological and data contributions that enable robust and reproducible zoological research Editorial Priorities The journal is committed to upholding rigorous scientific standards while remaining responsive to the practical challenges faced by researchers in the region. In this context, particular value is given to submissions that address well-defined questions or gaps in knowledge, use appropriate and transparent methods, and improve coverage of underrepresented taxa, geographies, and ecosystems. The journal seeks to promote exchange of knowledge across taxonomic groups, disciplines, and research communities, while serving as a rigorous and constructive platform for zoological research relevant to the region. Mission In a region facing significant environmental and societal pressures, Zoology in the Middle East aims to provide a stable, fair, and rigorous platform for scholarly work. We are dedicated to documenting the region’s faunal heritage, preserving scientific knowledge, and ensuring that this critical record remains accessible to current and future generations of researchers.
