研究范围与定位

Ulul Albab: Jurnal Studi Islam publishes articles on Islamic Studies covering both literary and fieldwork studies twice a year (June & December). This journal provides a scholarly platform for critical and interdisciplinary engagement with issues at the intersection of religion, culture, politics, identity, and philosophical thought in contemporary and historical contexts, particularly within Southeast Asia and the broader Muslim world. It invites rigorous academic inquiries that explore the dynamic role of religion—especially Islam—as it interacts with local traditions, national ideologies, citizenship, and transnational currents of thought. We welcome contributions that examine, but are not limited to: Religion and Identity Formation: Investigations into how religious beliefs shape, contest, or harmonize with national, ethnic, and cultural identities, especially in pluralistic societies.Philosophical and Theological Discourses: Analytical studies on classical and contemporary Islamic philosophical thought, mysticism (Sufism), and the integration of traditional Islamic epistemology (‘aql, naql) with modern critical theories.Religion and Politics: Critical perspectives on the political use of religion, the emergence of religious nationalism, and the negotiation of religious authority in state and non-state governance.Sacred Traditions and Local Wisdom: Ethnographic and hermeneutic explorations of religious rituals, spiritual practices, and the intersection between Islamic teachings and local customs (adat).Science and Sacred Time: Integrative studies on astronomy and Islamic jurisprudence in determining religious calendars and sacred timekeeping, as well as broader discussions on the science-religion interface in Islamic thought.Gender, Religion, and Tradition: Analyses of how Islamic philosophy, law, and mysticism engage with contemporary gender discourses, especially within diverse cultural matrices such as Javanese or other Southeast Asian traditions.Postcolonial and Geopolitical Perspectives: Contextual studies on Islamic movements, figures, and ideologies viewed through postcolonial lenses or within global political frameworks. This journal encourages submissions employing diverse methodologies—from textual analysis and philosophical inquiry to fieldwork-based ethnography and political theory—while upholding scholarly rigor and a commitment to advancing discourse on religion and society.
