A Revista RI atende a uma política editorial que busca proporcionar um espaço para diferentes pesquisas científicas, teóricas, empíricas e conjunturais, para facilitar o intercâmbio de informação sobre as ciências políticas e as relações internacionais com a América Latina e o mundo; também pretende fornecer insumos para analisar, avaliar e propor políticas públicas mais coerentes com as realidades sociais e incorporar diferentes conteúdos que estimulem novas agendas de pesquisa. Seu principal objetivo é promover o debate nacional e internacional nos campos das Ciências Políticas, Direito e das Relações Internacionais por meio da análise de fenômenos políticos passados e atuais, sob olhares disciplinares e interdisciplinares, e abordagens metodológicas pertinentes e inovadoras.
