The Journals of Gerontology® were the first journals on aging published in the United States. The tradition of excellence in these peer-reviewed scientific journals, established in 1946, continues today. The Journals of Gerontology, Series A® is a monthly journal of The Gerontological Society of America that publishes within its covers the Journal of Gerontology: Biological Sciences and the Journal of Gerontology: Medical Sciences. JOURNAL OF GERONTOLOGY: BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES, Gustavo Duque, MD, PhD, FRACP, FGSA, Editor-in-Chief The Journal of Gerontology: Biological Sciences publishes articles on the biological aspects of aging in areas such as translational gerontology, biomarkers of aging, biochemistry, biodemography, cellular and molecular biology, comparative and evolutionary biology, endocrinology, exercise sciences, genetics, immunology, neuroscience, nutrition, pathology, pharmacology, physiology, and the biological mechanisms of late life diseases. Biological insights gleaned in studies from invertebrates, vertebrates, and mammalian species including humans will be considered. The journal is particularly interested in publishing research on translational gerontology including interventions designed to enhance longevity and healthspan. If data are more than 10 years old, a rationale is requested in the cover letter. Areas of interest include biomarkers and mechanisms of aging; multisystem and integrative physiology; multimorbidity and complex chronic conditions; age-related disability encompassing cognitive, physical, and psychological function; geriatric syndromes and frailty; health span and healthy aging; environmental and social determinants of aging; global aging; and health outcomes among diverse populations, including the oldest old. The journal prioritizes studies that offer clear conceptual or methodological innovation, well-justified scientific rationales, and meaningful new contributions to the field.
