The journal is a fully open-access journal that focuses on data publication in structural science. It facilitates the rapid publication of two types of articles, Raw Data Letters and Data Reports. Raw Data Letters are short descriptions of crystallographic raw data sets in the biological, chemical or materials science fields, emphasising features of the data that could be of interest to methods and software developers or may be relevant to the structural interpretation. Data Reports describe the crystal structures of inorganic, metal-organic or organic compounds including a data validation report, figures and a concise description of the structure. IUCrData also actively explores alternative forms of data publication, such as powder or electron diffraction data, to serve the structural science community and welcomes suggestions from prospective authors.
