Fish and Fisheries adopts a broad, interdisciplinary approach to the subject of fish biology and fisheries. It draws contributions in the form of major synoptic papers, syntheses, reviews, meta-analyses, and policy and methods papers that lay out new approaches, re-examine existing findings, methods or theory, and critically discuss papers and commentaries from diverse areas. Focal areas include fish biology (including ecology, behavior, evolutionary studies, molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, and physiology), the fisheries sciences (including social, economic, and policy aspects), aquaculture, and fish conservation. A paper in Fish and Fisheries must have a broad geographic and/or taxonomic scope and provide points of generic value that make it compelling to a wide range of readers. Original articles in Fish and Fisheries make syntheses of old or synoptic, long-term, or spatially widespread data and introduce or consolidate fresh concepts or theory. In addition, Ghoti articles present stimulating new ideas and commentary; Policy Perspectives present science-based policy perspectives; and Methods and Practices articles provide cutting-edge guidance on scientific methods or management practices. All articles published in Fish and Fisheries, regardless of article type, are selected and edited by the editorial team and fully peer reviewed.
