La revue Fabula-LhT, pour Fabula-LhT : littérature, histoire, théorie, posera au contraire que « Théorie » et « Histoire » constituent deux pôles à la fois solidaires et antagoniques de toute réflexion générale sur la littérature. Solidaires – parce que la théorie et l’histoire littéraires ont en commun de chercher à élaborer des objets transcendant la singularité des œuvres individuelles (la « période » ou le « genre » sont des objets de statut épistémologique comparable) – mais non pas complémentaires – l’histoire littéraire s’accommodant mal du caractère non pas anhistorique mais transhistorique des objets théoriques. Antagoniques – là où l’histoire littéraire procède par induction dans le champ des œuvres du passé, la théorie littéraire prétend œuvrer par déduction a priori dans le champ de tous les textes possibles – mais non pas antinomiques : faire l’histoire de la littérature, c’est aussi considérer l’éventail des possibles qui s’offraient à elle aux différents moments de son devenir. C’est ce rapport, fait d’alliances et de tensions, que Fabula-LhT s’attachera à explorer.
