Focus, Scope and Objectives Emergency Care Journal is the official Journal of the Academy of Emergency Medicine and Care (AcEMC). The journal is an international, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to improve the quality of care by publishing contributions on acute medical care and related medical specialties. The journal welcomes submissions from international contributors and researchers of all specialties involved in acute medical conditions. Emergency Care Journal publishes Original Articles, Review Articles, Opinion Reports, Case Reports, Images in Emergency, Letters to the Editors, Commentaries, Book Reviews, Editorials and other educational information related to the practice, teaching, and environment of emergency medicine. In addition to general topics, ECJ also publishes articles on out-of-hospital emergency medical services, pediatric emergency medicine, injury and disease prevention, health policy and ethics, disaster management, toxicology, and related topics. Although most of published research is clinical, there is also strong interest for basic science research pertinent to emergency medicine, thus including all clinical, diagnostics and therapeutic areas of medicine involved in the emergency care management. Peer review process Peer review is applied to all research articles and the majority of other article types published in PAGEPress journals. This usually entails at least two independent, expert peer reviewers. Policy All submissions to PAGEPress journals are first checked for completeness (criteria for desk reject are available in the Guide for Authors) before being sent to an Editor, who decides whether they are suitable for peer review. If an Editor is on the author list or has a competing interest in a particular manuscript, another member of the Editorial Board will be assigned to oversee peer review. When making a decision, Editors will consider the peer-reviewed reports, but they will not be bound by the opinions or recommendations contained in them. A single peer reviewer's or the Editor's concern may result in the manuscript being rejected. Peer review reports are sent to authors along with the editorial decision on their manuscript. Emergency Care Journal uses the following type of peer review: Single-blind: the reviewers know the names of the authors, but the authors do not know who reviewed their manuscript.
