BMC Urology is an open access journal publishing original peer-reviewed research articles in all aspects of the prevention, diagnosis and management of urological disorders, as well as related molecular genetics, pathophysiology, and epidemiology. The journal welcomes manuscripts in the following broad areas of urology research: Andrology, Sexual Function And Fertility – focuses on male and female sexual and reproductive health, encompassing male reproductive health and related disorders such as infertility, erectile dysfunction, testicular function issues, hypogonadism, hormonal therapy, and prostatic diseases with reproductive implications, as well as broader perspectives including sexual dysfunction in men and women (e.g., erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, female sexual dysfunction and genital pain disorders), infertility diagnostics and treatments (e.g., azoospermia, varicocele), fertility preservation strategies, hormonal modulation therapies, the effects of urological conditions on sexual wellbeing, and the psychosexual and quality-of-life impacts of urological treatments. Endourology and New Technology – highlights technological innovation and minimally invasive techniques like robotic and laparoscopic procedures, novel surgical tools or platforms, laser therapies (e.g., for BPH or stones), stent designs and urinary drainage innovations, AI and digital tools for procedural optimization, development of surgical instruments and stents, telemedicine tools and surgical training platforms and integration of AI, imaging guidance, and augmented reality Epidemiology and Health Outcomes – explores population-level insights and health system impacts like prevalence, risk factor, and burden studies, health economics and cost-effectiveness, patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), longitudinal cohort analyses, screening program evaluations, real-world effectiveness of treatments, healthcare access and disparities, and health economics and cost-effectiveness of interventions Female Urology, Neurourology and Voiding Dysfunction – centers on functional disorders and neurological control of urination including urinary incontinence and retention, overactive bladder and interstitial cystitis, pelvic organ prolapse, overactive bladder and urgency incontinence, neurogenic bladder and spinal cord injury sequelae, nocturia, retention, and obstructive voiding, pelvic floor dysfunction and urodynamic testing, and behavioral and surgical interventions.
