Atmospheric Science Letters (ASL) publishes research that advances the understanding of atmospheric and climate science using observations, modelling and novel methodologies (including machine learning). ASL welcomes research articles on: Atmospheric and climate dynamics Climate variability, change & impacts Ocean-atmosphere coupling Weather and climate prediction Atmospheric physics Applications of observational techniques & remote sensing Atmosphere-land interactions Weather/climate extremes Air quality and pollution ASL contributions are limited to 3500 words, with no fixed limit on the number of figures/tables (additional items can be included as supporting information). Please see our Author Guidelines for information on article submission. Contributions can be in the form of research articles or perspective papers. All published articles go through a full peer-review process, which is swifter than longer form journals. On average, accepted papers take ~120 days from submission (after peer-review and author revisions) and first decisions are made in ~45 days following initial peer-review. OUT OF SCOPE: Articles that do not fit with the journal’s criteria include: Highly specialized or technical methodological research, which is not accessible to a broad, multidisciplinary audience. Studies of this type may be appropriate for submission to Meteorological Applications Local or regional case studies which do not adequately show how results/findings are timely and significant in a broader context outside of the study area. Studies of this type may be appropriate for submission to Meteorological Applications or Weather It is recommended that authors carefully look at the aims and scope of this journal to determine whether they match that of their own article. There may be other journals within the RMetS portfolio that would be a more appropriate home. The Editors reserve the right to consider transfer without prejudice to another home within the portfolio if they feel that the content is of an appropriate quality and the journal to be of a better fit.
