Athar al-rafedain publishes original research papers, reviews archaeological studies and excavation reports. It is an open-access journal, open to all specialists in the field of archaeological studies, including academics and archaeologists working at the State Board for Antiquities and Heritage (SABAH). In addition, the journal publishes in the fields related to archaeology particularly those within the following specializations: Ancient and Islamic archaeology Ancient languages and dialects and comparative studies Cuneiform writing and ancient scripts Historical and cultural studies Archaeological geology Archaeological survey techniques Anthropological studies Conservation and restoration
